8 July, 2011

I am home now.  Thoroughly, happily home.  Yesterday was a haze of Jetlag, moving from feeling the need to get up, being hungry at odd times, falling back into bed, waking up hours later, feeling that I should get up because it is day, but falling asleep again until my friend, Ken, dropped by to say hello.  We had some of the tea I brought home and I told more stories and showed pictures from my trip and found out what has been going on here.  Home started coming more into focus around dinner time when I re-discovered cheese in the form of cheese sauce over fresh-picked, green beans with home-made bread and a green salad and blueberry fruit smoothies with vanilla yogurt.  My taste buds were jumping up and down and hugging each other as they recognized these old flavors like long lost friends.  My hands knew how to use the knife and fork without my paying attention to them.

After dinner we put on our swim suits and headed to Deep River Water Park for a YMCA family night.  The only person I ran into there that I knew was A.J. from the China Trip, who said that he had been sleeping all day and had talked to Mickey today who had said much the same.  The night was cool, but not too cool in the summer evening sun and the water was not freezing as it often is early in the season, so the park was pleasant and the excitement and coolness kept me awake and present, but in the car on the way home, I could feel that nodding feeling of sleep coming to get me before I was ready.  I fell into bed after minimal preparations and was out in minutes only to find myself awake at 1:30 AM.  Half of a sleeping pill brought me to 6:00 AM and I feel ready to face a day without feeling like my brain is underwater.

Please look around the blog for the next few days.  I still want to tell about Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven (in the Beijing Section) and I also want to talk a little more about what my daily walk in Shanghai revealed to me each day.  I have been uploading pictures to Picasa Web Albums.  I will post links to them in the Media Page.
